Your music lessons and music exam preparation at The Music Rooms will take place under the supervision of a talented Music Teacher from the list below:
Rodney Beggs: Guitar, Drums, Bass
Rod is a vastly travelled and experienced musician. He has been teaching drums, guitar and bass guitar for over 10 years now. The first ever Music Rooms teacher! Rodney’s love of teaching came from his personal experience of being overlooked as a musician in his early days at school due to his inability to read music at the time. Always believing in his own ability, he taught himself to read, began playing in bands and performing acoustically travelling throughout Australia, Asia, Africa and many parts of Europe with his music, releasing an album of original material along the way. Rodney is passionate about passing on his experience, knowledge and love of music to others, communicating it through working toward an exam or learning your favourite songs!
Jonathan O’Neill: Guitar, Banjo, Mandolin, Uke
Johnny has been playing guitar for 12 years along with some piano. He has played in various bands and has recently started playing traditional music on the banjo and mandolin. Some of his favourite artists are ACDC, Guns N Roses, Metallica, Megadeth, Avenged Sevenfold, Bruce Springsteen, Jonny Cash, Tommy Emmanuel, Steve Earle, The Rolling Stones, Christy Moore, The Pogues, Oasis, Noel Gallagher, Red Hot Chili Peppers. Johnny loves being able to pass on the knowledge, he has gained from his own experiences learning guitar, to beginner and advanced players alike.
Matthew Hutchinson, Music Teacher: Drums
I got my first kit at the age of 12 and started lessons shortly after. With the help of lessons I became really involved in music at school, playing in the choir and orchestra and then finishing with a B at GCSE level. Going to lessons every week and learning new techniques and songs with Rodney at The Music Rooms was a great thing to be involved in and I want to pass that onto my students as well as everything I have learned over the past 7 years.
I was part of a funk band inspired by the Chilli’s and other musicians like BB King and even David Bowie. We got to play in a lot of great venues across NI, places like Auntie Annie’s in Belfast and The Cellar in Drapperstown as well as record our own EP. It was a great way to further myself as a drummer.
I like to hear the different genre’s and bands that the students listen to and then incorporate them into the lessons. I found it easier, and a lot more enjoyable, when I was learning songs I enjoyed to listen to and this is something I like the students to do. Watching the progress of the students and seeing them enjoy the lessons is an awesome feeling.
I listen to a lot of different types of music from Classical, Jazz, and Rock straight through to Heavy Metal.
Some of the bands I get inspiration from are Biffy Clyro, GreenDay, Blink 182, Metallica, AC/DC, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Avenged Sevenfold, Pink Floyd, Artic Monkeys, Foo Fighters, Guns N’ Roses and John Martyn.
Jonathan Dempster, Music Teacher: Guitar

Stevie Craig: Guitar

Stevie plays lead guitar and vocals in his own three-piece blues rock band Coldshot, who have played alongside Pat McManus and Henry McCullough and have appeared at Donegal Jazz and Blues Festival, Belfast Blues Festival and Limavady Blues Festival to name a few.
Megan Phair: Piano/Keys, Vocals
Megan has been singing for as long as she can remember, and for the last 10 years she has been taking professional training. This has led her to be a performer in numerous folk festivals and at various music events. Megan has a love for singing and this is evident when she teaches. Some of her favourite artists are a fine frenzy of Adele, Regina Spektor and Johnny cash.
Megan is also an accomplished piano teacher. She has been playing piano for 12 years and has played many public performances both accompanying herself singing and accompanying other musicians. Mr Blair has been teaching for over 10 years now. He has a music and guitar collection that would put the most enthusiastic collector to shame. Whatever song you want to learn he probably owns it, as well as the guitar it was recorded on. Aaron plays all styles of guitar and is very proficient on slide, alternative tunings and blues rhythm.

Eamonn has played many different styles of music, both for fun, and also for performances. He was the organist for a choir, where he enjoyed helping to co-ordinate something creative, both from the instrumental and the vocal perspective. It was through his extensive work in the choir that he learned his skills as a vocal tutor.
“I love lots of different kinds of music, from classical to dubstep, and everything in between.”
